What We Learned From The UFC vs. AKA Debacle
No fighter is in a position to challenge the UFC at the present time.
I sat back and read all of the information as it came in, and truth be told we’ll never know everything that happened with the situation. There are two sides of every story as this situation is no different. The sad thing I noticed is that fans picked sides before getting a great deal of information about the situation, and again we’ll NEVER get all of the behind the scene information needed to reach a clear judgement. The fact of the matter is everything in this situation revolves around money. The UFC wants to make money, the fighters want to get paid, and the fighter’s agents want a piece of that same pie.
UFC vs. Fighters
I’m sure you have read somewhere or another about the UFC’s decision to cut fighters that refused to sign a merchandising agreement with the company. There are two sides to every story, a story in which it’s very difficult to get all the facts for. So below you will here from Jon Fitch and Dana White, and you can decide who’s side you are on:

M-1 Global Swings And Misses…Again

Fedor Emelianenko
M-1 Global issued a statement in light of the results of Lesnar vs. Couture:
“It is the position of M-1 that the UFC has adopted an anti-Fedor policy because multiple attempts to sign him have not been fruitful,” read the prepared release. “For a company that has tried to market itself as the number one promotion in the world, they are unable to accept the fact that the number one fighter in the world does not reside on its roster of contracted fighters.
“We believe that the UFC has determined that it’s much more inexpensive for them to use their marketing resources to use smoke and mirrors to brand a fighter as the pound-for-pound best as opposed to actually paying the pound-for-pound best what he is truly worth on the open market.”
2008 MMA Awards Thus Far
As the year 2008 slowly comes to an end, throughout this busy and historic year we’ve seen many shake ups, breakdowns, and fallouts. While there’s plenty of MMA left to achieve one of the aforementioned verbs, I will just give my two cents on some of the major happenings of the year thus far:
Fight of the Year
Thus far we’ve been treated some really great MMA match ups, thanks to UFC, DREAM, WEC, and etc. Here are my picks for best fights of the year thus far:
Will The Hype For UFC 92 Surpass The Hype Of UFC 79?
Traditionally the last UFC event of the year is ’stacked’ more so than any other event of the year. This time last year MMA fans were on the verge of witnessing one of the most anticipated match ups in the history of our very young sport in Liddell vs. Silva. That fight delivered and uncharacteristically lived up to the hype. The event also featured the 3rd fight between Matt Hughes and Georges St. Pierre, and the UFC debut of PRIDE standout Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.

Wanderlei Sends Message To Rampage
The Lesnar vs. Couture Stoppage Wasn’t Too Late
“The ref [Mario Yamasaki] was going, ‘Eh, is [Couture] OK?’ Mario was trying to give him time [to recover]. There’s a fine line between that and [allowing] too many punches. When I saw Randy go back down, I thought we had crossed that line.”-Dana White
I do not agree with Dana White’s assessment of the stoppage. I think White is speaking more so from being a ‘friend’ of Couture more than anything here. I mean the referee is in a damn if you do damn if you don’t type of position here. The reality of it is Yamasaki let Couture take enough of a beating so that there was absolutely no doubt as to who won the fight. You could also call it giving the champion every chance to survive the onslaught and regain his composure. In fact, with all of the variables that went into this fight the UFC did not need a questionable stoppage. They needed a definitive winner in the eye of the casual fan, especially considering Lesnar’s background in the WWE. In fact, I don’t think we have heard Couture complain about the stoppage at all as this is what he had to say:

2008 UFC At A Glance And Upcoming Mega-Fights
One has to admit that the year of 2008 has been very good to the UFC. Amid all the chaos of EliteXC debuting on CBS, Affliction signing former UFC champions and Fedor, and the resignation of Randy Couture the UFC has prospered. So much in fact that they are poised to surpass their PPV #’s from 2006, a record high for the company. Let’s take a look at the numbers:
