UFC vs. Fighters

<

I’m sure you have read somewhere or another about the UFC’s decision to cut fighters that refused to sign a merchandising agreement with the company.  There are two sides to every story, a story in which it’s very difficult to get all the facts for.  So below you will here from Jon Fitch and Dana White, and you can decide who’s side you are on:

You can read what Dana White thinks about it here.

Like I said I don’t think I can adequately comment on this since I don’t know everything in it’s entirety.  This is pretty much the just of the information from what I can tell.  If you have more information on the subject feel free to shoot me an email or just leave your thoughts in the comments box.

Props to Bloodyelbow for the Jon Fitch Interview.

this can’t be good for the ufc. dana white is coming off as an unreasonable jerk.

i don’t see anything unreasonable about a 5 or 10 year agreement. signing your likeness away forever? that puts you in a terrible situation if you choose to leave the company…after you sign it the UFC would know that they own your ass so they can push you around even more knowing that without your likeness rights you aren’t worth as much.

also, if they kick out most of AKA like he said (cain, koscheck) he will be giving Affliction or other organizations very solid fighters to help keep them afloat. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail, but 5 years from now (if the UFC cuts a lot of fighters) this could be seen as the turning point that allowed Affliction or someone else stay afloat.

Hmm..I dunno..I’m still deciphering all of the information. I do know that allowing Cain, Koscheck, and/or Fitch to go fight for Affliction wouldn’t really do them(Affliction) any good at the moment. In fact, it would probably put the nails in their coffin faster with the amount of money these guys are going to request with all that they have accomplished in the UFC. Only for Affliction to not see anything from it because none of the guys at AKA are THAT big of a draw PPV wise.

Yeah I guess you are right. They aren’t releasing any of the huge headliners so it’s not that big of a deal but the more UFC fighters they can get will give them more credibility. The amount of money that they are losing, though, will be their downfall.

It really sucks to see them let go of some really solid fighters over this. I’d like to hear Dana’s reason why a 5 year likeness or 10 year likeness opposed to forever.

Well, even if Affliction got a ton of former UFC fighters they would not be able to promote them because they couldn’t use UFC footage to do so.

From what I’m gathering EA Sports wants to do a MMA game, and they are the arch rival of THQ(guys doing the UFC game). Getting a lifetime agreement gurantees that you would never see any UFC fighters on a EA Sports MMA game.
